Horrible experience with MTN departments
I was trying to cancel my MTN postpaid account from overseas and was totally frustrated dealing with their call center: multiple calls, waiting time, people not knowing what’s going on, etc. It got me nowhere. Eventually after lengthy email correspondence with *** I received their email with required cancellation fees which I paid immediately on 22 February 2022. I sent them subsequently the proof of payment and they assured me in another email that the account will be cancelled as soon as payment of cancellation fees is reflected in MTN banking records. I sighed with relief. Regrettably, nothing like that happened. It is now more than a year and half since I paid cancellation fees and I am threatened with black listing unless MTN receives outstanding account fees. FOR WHAT ???. I am sending again multiple emails to *** requesting confirmation of account cancelation and all they do is replaying with request for personal information, and when I send requested information nothing happen, no reply. Then I send another email to retentions and story repeats. Unfortunately, I no longer live in SA, so to go and sort out this issue personally is not an option for me. It all boils down to the incompetence of MTN service departments, in particular the infamous mtn retentions. My advice is (if you must do it) cancel your MTN account in person, no chance to do it remotely.
