Home internet package not activated MTN refuses to acknowledge online payment made

On 15 July 2024, I decided to take a home internet package with MTN for R269. I app**** online and was required to pay R416 upfront to complete the application. This covered prorated usage for July and a full month for August. I agreed to a debit order date of the 4th of every month.

I paid the R416 via a standard bank card and received a payment confirmation email. On 17 July, I received the router and SIM card, and I waited 48 hours for activation. However, on Friday evening, before activation, my bank account was debited multiple times. Insufficient funds resulted in bounced debit orders and significant bank charges.

MTN subsequently charged me R80 for the bounced debit order. Despite numerous calls and messages with proof of payment, MTN claims they cannot trace the initial payment and refuses to resolve the issue. I have incurred over R500 in bank charges, lost prorated internet days, and remain unconnected despite paying upfront.

To summarize, I have spent over R900, am still without internet, and MTN has provided no assistance. I've called standard bank and there is formal proof of payment that they can provide you for an online payment other then a transaction/bank statement or the payment gate email that you recieve after making the payment.

I am not sure why MTN cannot trace and correctly allocate a payment made to them via their own online store! I'm appalled at the lack of assistance and the running around I've had to do over the ast 14 days and still nothing!
