Helpless and confused

Good day,

I hereby wish to lodge a complaint regarding the cell phone I had with MTN via Nashua.

I took a contract with Nashua, it’s almost two years now.

The contact I took was that they give me airtime to a certain amount and when that is depleted I buy myself prepaid airtime, they went under and gave the book back to MTN.

To my surprise MTN did an open line, with who’s permission I do not know so they took more than what I agreed on the contract with Nashua.

I went to MTN shop in Centurion to enquire about the amount taken off my account and they informed me that I have an open line – I requested them to close the line but did not do it.

The following month the amount was ridiculously high and at that time couldn’t afford to pay it all, I subsequently made an arrangement to make additional amount towards covering the arrears until such time when my phone was blocked, when I asked why I was told that I need to pay the whole arrears amount back as I was provided with a grace period which expired.

Because I did not have that amount with me and I felt that I was supposed to be advised of the open line and for the fact that I was paying something towards the amount, I was not supposed to be held accountable and be disadvantaged.

I left it at that, nothing happened between that time until last month when I got a call from some legal company claiming that I owe plus minus R8000.00.

I asked them how they got to the amount but they were not able to provide me with an answer and told me that is the amount they got from MTN.

May I ask you to please investigate this as I am not willing to pay the amount they are requesting, the last amount I owed to MTN was plus minus R2500.00 that was not even supposed to get there but did due to the negligence from your side.

I had two contracts, one for data and the other for phone.

Cell number: 078 **********

Your response in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Warm Regards

Good day Boitumelo,

Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns and affording us the opportunity to address them. Kindly accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

It is only through these concerns being brought to our attention that we can identify and address areas that need our urgent attention.

Kindly note that we realise that your account has a legal status and has been further handed over to Direct Channel Credit Management due to unpaid arrears on the account.

We have therefore escalated your query to our Legal department and have requested them to contact you on the 081* number you have provided. The call will be mainly to provide you with a breakdown of the amount handed over as well as to attend to any Legal dispute that you may have.

We sincerely hope that this is in order and hope that we are able to restore your faith in us.

Kind Regards,

Tshepo M

Best regards,

BM

I dont think you have read my complaint, this matter would have not even gone to the legal department had you contacted me prior to handing over to the lawyers for resolution.

To my surprise the first call I received regarding this complaint was when your legal team called me, what happened between the time you realised I am in arrears and the the time you handed me over, why did you not call me to try and resolve before adding legal charges.

I feel that you must mediate and recall the referral to Legal department, the only thing that they are going to clarify with me is from the time the account was handed over, I am sure they can't justify anything prior to that.

MTN must read my complaint from inception, admit their wrong and rectify/resolve themselves.

I am not going to pay the R8000.00 the legal department wants me to pay, the amount that I should be liable for is the airtime I have utilised unknowingly as I did not know that the contract had been converted to open line.

Please do the right thing and stop pushing the bug.

Still waiting for someone to call me with an explanation, you keep on sending me letters demanding payment but fail to resolve my issue amicably.
