Held Hostage to MTN administrative inadequacies
As a business owner, I have a number of cell phone contracts. In December 2021 I upgraded my personal phone which is largely utilized for business - choosing an expensive monthly contract. Due to an internal administrative error, this contract was loaded on to another small contract that belongs to my business. As a result, by day three of every month I am having to purchase both data and voice time. MTN South Africa claim they are unable to transfer this contact to the phone it was initially purchased for. They claim the original contract has been misplaced, despite a consultant acknowledging that the contract is signed with the correct cell number details. They can not provide me with a copy of this contract. If the contract does not exist, then what am I paying for? I am now seven months in to a contract I have not seen, and they can not show me. A massive non-transferable credit of data and voice time now sits in the other number, which I pay R1262.32 a month for, but can not access. I have been with MTN for 28 years. Renewed and upgraded religiously. MTN advise this is a problem they do not encounter and do not know how to rectify. My only solution, they say, is that I buy myself out of the contract and they will try to waive early settlement penalties! It is unacceptable how MTN is so happy to take my money from both accounts, but is unwilling to provide me with a reasonable solution. This all comes at a cost to ME. MTN is a national corporate service provider and I am paying for their administrative inadequacies.
