Great service from MTN Staff
So I bought a phone on contract for my 64 year old mother from MTN and this morning it decided to bar all incoming calls. to cut a long story short, she went to the MTN Store at Maponya Mall but was unable to be assisted as the contract is under my name so Steven the consultant who was helping her, went all out to assist us while I was calling 808 to get assistance with the matter. I did not get the name of the gentleman who helped me when I called 808 but he gave me a ref no. 264 088 248. I am really pleased that MTN staff members go the extra mile to help their clients, we received a really great service from the two gentlemen. Thank you.

So I spoke to my mother this morning to find out what was happening to her phone yesterday. She says a man from MTN called her telling her that a man from KZN has lodged a complaint against her that the number she is using belongs to him(the man from KZN). He then told her that he will block this man from using her number by asking her a few questions which included amongst others getting the last 5 numbers that she has dialed, her last recharge amount, her residential address, her ID number and a $-digit pin that he can use to "block" this new person. Knowing that he is dealing with a pensioner, it worked and she gave him 4 numbers that she uses for her mobile banking(because those are the first numbers that came to her head), he then entered those numbers and told her that she should give him another 4 digit pin as the one she gave was not working. This is where God's Grace kicks in. The number that she gave him was her "intended" mobile banking pin as my siblings had seen her mobile pin(she did not want them to use her account to buy airtime for themselves) she had decided to change her mobile banking pin at the branch yesterday so she gave this man a pin that was not registered yet. When he wanted a 2nd 4-digit pin she was driving so she asked that he call later and from then onwards her number was disconnected from the network the entire day until I was assisted yesterday. She called me this morning and told me everything about the phone call with this man, that's when I warned her to never give any information over the phone ever again she should rather go to the branch. He then tried to call her again this morning about 30min ago requesting the same information, fortunately this time she knew better and hung up the phone. Now my biggest concern is, how do these people do a sim swap without the registered owner? Surely this must be an inside job. Especially because this is a contract phone under my name how did they manage to do the sim swap using my mother's ID number? How safe are we?
