Getting spammed and ignored by my own service provider
I am shocked, I have been fighting for over a month now and still made ZERO progress. I get MTN MoMo promotional SMS's every single day. And there is no way to opt out from these things
I tried calling 135 and there is literally no menu item where I can speak to a human, I then took it to their Facebook page on 9 June to which they asked me to message them my number so that they can assist. I did so and "~SBU" told me to dial *130*603# which gives me a dialog saying "Y'ello, please note that the competition is inactive"
I then told them this and "~SBU" told me to dial *135*6# which took me to the dialog where you can switch on and off "data, voice and SMS" usage SMSs
I told them that that has nothing to do with the problem and "~SBU" told me to call 083135. No idea why because once again no menu item helps my problem... i told them this and got ignored
10 June I sent "???" and got no reply 11 June I sent "can you please help me?" "I have been waiting since Tuesday" no reply 12 June "can you PLEASE help me?" no reply 13 June got a message from then asking if I have the MoMo app from "~MAK"... I told them that I do not and and they told me that they have requested that my number doesn't receive ads with reference number SMC/***. (from "S/M") I asked that they do the same for my other number which they then kinked to the same ticket... progress? I then kept getting the daily SMSs and on 17 June I asked them for the status on the ticket... no reply again on 18 June and they told me "Our records confirm that your query is being attended to by our Marketing team who will remove your number from our SMS listing ~PT" I told them that I would be messaging them every time I get an SMS from them to check on the status of the ticket and did so and they ignored my messages
On 23 June they told me that the ticket was resolved and that I needed to SMS "Stop" to 30256. Could this finally be the end? haha no (They finished message with "~Teddy" and "~TS"
24 June... messaged again with a screen shot of another SMS that came through... They told me to dial *135# and then select "consent settings" on all options to opt out. I eventually found that I need to select option 3 "MTN Contract Service" and then option 3 " Change consent settings and then I can chose 1 by 1 and to disable It then asks "are you sure?" I say 1 for "yes and then it tells me "MTN will no longer be sending you promotions"... except that when you go back to that menu nothing has changed... consent is still "yes" for all options! (they finished message with "~MM"
I told them this and "~NKM" told me that my number was restored and that I should try again... I did and still nothing.
They then asked me if I have the old myMTN app. I do so they told me to go to "manage messages" and deactivate all the messages I dont want. I tried this ... pressed the toggle switch from on to off and a dialog pops up asking "are you sure?" I say "yes" then "Success! You'll no longer get info about MTN competitions" (or promotions or whatever I chose) the toggle switch magically flips back to "on" again... much like when I did it with the USSD codes
I sent a video of this to them and they said "thanks, we have redirected the matter to our system support to further investigate herewith your reference number SMC/*** kindly allow us to revert to you with an update ~NKM"
I kept messaging them every time I got an SMS from time and got ignored from 25 to 6 June....
On 6 June I sent a message saying "Come on now! Its been nearly a month and this is still not sorted" and they rep**** "Hi there, we appologize for the service received. We are following up with our support team with the trouble ticket that was logged for you. ~VS"
Didnt hear from them again and still getting SMSs. I have been literally begging them every day to help me since and get ignored every time. I just get their automated "we will be with you shortly" message every time
There must be something broken on their backend where the endpoint isn't updating the marketing consent in the database and then when it pulls the data from the database it is still on.
This is ridiculous and ********. I am getting spammed by my own service provider who are flat out ignoring me. Im at a loss... this service is shocking
option 4 is "out of bundle services" not "opt out" but I went into it anyway
which then takes me not "welcome to your out of bundle settings, which setting do you want to manage?" i chose option 4 "notifications" which much like when I dial *135*6# which "~SBU" suggested takes me to a screen which I can change bundle usage notifications... which once again is NOT the problem... the problem is the ****py spam messages from MoMo like yesterdays one
"Y'ello, get MTN airtime using your MTN MoMo account and DOUBLE YOUR AIRTIME for FREE!! Limited time offer, dial *151# to GET IT NOW! Opt out *135# T&Cs Apply"
Which by the way the only thing with *135# that has to do with opting out is *135#, op 3, op 3. Which takes to marketing consent but... as per my above account for 24 June does NOT work. It doesn't change anything despite telling me "MTN will no longer be sending you promotions. To manage your settings please dial *135*3#"
