***** by MTN due to being retrenched?

I have been with MTN for more yhan 27 yrs but due to Covid19, I was retrenched in June 2020 thus unable to afford monthly contract costs. Luckily, my contract expires on the 5th September 2020 thus went in today to cancel contract and keep same number as pre-paid which was not the problem. I was advised by Sakina at the MTN Customer Service Centre outside Canal Walk that billing is from 11th Aug to 11th Sept thus I will still be billed at the end of September. I had no problem with this and said it is ok as I am receiving airtime and data thus have to pay for this. Chatting to the lady, we were holding on for the Customer Service agent on 135 as then Aliza advised me that once they cancel the contract I lose all my airtime and data. I was so confused and asked her why would I lose my airtime and data when I am billed for receiving it but because I am canceling my contract, I forfeit all? Why then will monies be deducted from my account if I am being 'punished' for canceling contract due to me being retrenched? This is no ones fault and Covid19 happened and a lot of people are in the same situation. Why punish people who are retrenched as we did not ask for this? Please could someone advise re this as your staff is just saying that it is as per the MTN rules?!
