In March 2017 I received an sms from an attorney stating that I had been handed over for about R15 000 for an MTN account. I have never opened an MTN contract. Upon further investigation this linked to ********** debit orders that had been coming off my account in the second half of 2016.
The call center said all I needed to do was take a copy of my ID and an affidavit to my nearest MTN. I did this the same day. They told me that this was fairly common so they knew the procedure and it would be sorted out quickly.
For a couple of month afterwards I still received calls from the attorney to whom I explained that I had done everything I was told to do. Eventually that stopped.
In November 2017 I was told I have a judgement against me and it turned out that it was still MTN. I went to MTN again, I was put through to their call center where I was told that someone hadn't done their job and written off the outstanding amount but it would be sorted out within a week. I was also told they would phone me with their plan of action.
Needless to say I never received a call from them nor have they sorted out the outstanding amount which reflects on my credit record.
I asked for a copy of the contract seeing as it was opened in my name, the first person I spoke to said they would send it to me, since then I've been told that I can't be given a copy of this document. I was told that it is the law that in a case of ***** they can't supply the contract. However if it is in my name and it is reflecting on my record, why can't I get a copy of the contract. What are you hiding?
If this is so common that your MTN shops know exactly what to do why don't you put measures in place to stop it?
If this is not sorted out soon I will take this issue to an attorney, clearly MTN does not care about its reputation.
