Forceful Contract Renewal

I had a contract with MTN(Wi-fi) ,I knew that soon it will expire so because I have seen the terrible services that MTN give to people I went to an MTN outlet sometime last year to inform them that I want to cancel my contract( Van der Walt in Pretoria ) and there I was told to contact MTN on the 13th of March 2024 or else my contract will be automaticallt renewed and I will pay about R600 on a montlhy basis from R174 per month.On the 13th of March 2024 I called MTN to cancel my contract only to be informed that I was supposed to inform them a month earlier,I was sent a message on the 12th of March to be informed of this.My question is since I went there in time why was I not informed of the one month notice period,I believe that MTN is deliberately deceiving people with this automatical contract renewal,I told them several times that I cannot afford that amount of money and they just told me that I have to pay that money,I will understand if I didnt take my time to go to the outlet and enquire but I was given wrong information which I beleieve that it was done deliberately,ahaello Peter please help me because I cannot afford to pay that kind of money.
