For MTN, NO does not mean NO

My contract is up for renewal. However, I do not want to renew - I simply want to retain the service on a month-to-month basis.

I had NUMEROUS phone calls and sms's from MTN reminding me of renewal. For the first FIVE OR SIX phone calls, I (politely) indicated that I am not interested in renewal, and gave a reason. Subsequent to the first call, I started requesting, and then BEGGING, that I should not be called again in this regard.

Today, after the n-th call, I was told to 'call 808 to cancel the calls'. After 25 minutes and numerous transfers, it finally seemed as if someone would help: offering to notify whoever needs to be notified, and also offering a reduced monthly fee - NOT indicating that my contract would be renewed.

Net effect: an sms indicating contract renewal.

In my follow-up call, it was explained to me that MTN has a legal obligation to notify me of contract renewal. I indicated that I CHOSE not to renew at the first notification. However, the response was that they will KEEP NOTIFYING me regularly, and that their only 'fault' has been to do this too regularly, i.e., weekly (!!!!)

I am still waiting for the call back to indicate that my contract was now NOT RENEWED, and how they would respond in terms of future renewals....

Bottom line: You either renew your contract, or MTN will incessantly and until all eternity bug you to do so, without your permission.

Look what happened!!!! In spite of the numerous attempts to resolve this issue, as outliend above, I have NOT heard from Willem Jnr Loots who promised on this page to look into the matter. I have also NOT heard from anybody at the help desk, in spite of numerous requests on the day the problem occurred. What MTN did do, out of the goodness of their hearts, is to SEND ME A NOTICE OF RENEWAL. They seem very excited about it. I am not. NO MEANS NO!!!!!!!!!!! WILLEM - PLEASE FOLLOW UP!!!!!!!
