Falsely/ ******* renewed contract
I would like to complain about How MTN upgraded my contract without my knowledge. This is what happened 1.On Wednesday, 24 August I went to MTN CapeGate to find out when is my contract due for an upgrade. I was told I can upgrade now. But since I was not sure of the phone I wanted I said I will come back. 2. On Friday, I received a call from *** at 15H35. The caller said that MTN would like to offer a price adjustment, from R229 per month to R209 per month. I asked the caller if this was not going to affect my contract duration because it will look like I am getting a new contract. The person on the other side said no. I told them I am due for an upgrade and I would like to take a handset. He said I will still be able to upgrade the contract without any problems. But I will be paying a lesser amount up until I officially upgrade my contract and collect a new handset I did not see any harm in doing this, it was a matter of saving R20 until I collect the new handset. The call lasted 9 minutes, 50 seconds and I was given assurance many times this would not affect my contract duration 3. Today, 29 August I received an debit check from my bank account, that I must approve a debit order run by MTN of R538. Which is totally different form what was said to me on the phone. 4. I went to an MTN branch in CapeGate to find out what was happening because I do not know agreeing to the higher payment terms. I expected to be paying R209 from end of September 2009. 5. I was told that my contract has been renewed. I will be getting only data and minutes for the next 24 months. It was renewed over the phone, therefore they cannot help me to cancel that contract. I will have to phone the number that called me to cancel. 6. I want to be clear, there was never an agreement to renew the contract over the phone. I was promised that the price plan adjustment will not change the contract duration. When ever it suit me, I will be able to upgrade and get a new handset. 7. Can MTN please cancel this stupid contract that they renewed *******ly as I did not agree on the new term. I want a contract that will include a handset. Not what they gave me for the next 24 month.
Lastly please get your staff to stop chasing sales at the expense of consumers
My number is ***
