As one of many, we see cellphone contracts advertised for example R199 for 24 months from different network providers - be it on tv or their catalogue.
This year (2017), April, I took a contract out with them for R679. I recieved a Samsung S7 Edge, a flat screen tv and R200. (A amazing deal that anyone would go for) Being in a financial instituation i understand how a installment is made up of. Obviously in this case its the phone, tv and airtime.
Once billing has comenced they have been deduction R748 - more than the agreed amount. Calling in they said the R78 comes from VAT. Any consumer can see that is impossible because nowhere it states VAT included in their catalogue, contract nor tv. Which means whatever product they are offering they are robbing consumers. If you purchase something advertised whatever the selling price is VAT is already included unless said clearly VAT excluded. I have contacted MTN to follow up on the investigation and they left me know choice to expose them pubically. My next step is to the consumer ombudsman to expose this ******* of a company.
