Excessive MTN data bills just out of the blue and really bad service in resolving (... or should I say in NOT resolving)

My monthly billing from MTN (when I get an invoice) is inconsistent ranging from sometime R150+ to max R600+ with an odd occasion of a bad month reaching not more R800+ which is only once in a while.

For the month of Feb 2017 (bill for Mar) my invoice sky rocketed to a whopping R2995.90 with no change to my data usage experience from any other month. Apparently according to MTN the next invoice is even more ... R3000+ ?? I hardly use my phone and the data I use is minimal with jhaving WIFI at work and WIFI at home. I contacted MTN via walk in to the MTN shop, as well as email and then eventually phoning them. Always a last resort for me as I would rather hit my head against a brick wall than phoning the call centre. I have about 3 or 4 MTN ref numbers allocated to me since 27 March of follow up on this episode. They informed me I over used the service and was downloading data over and above the current bundled data contract. Followed up recently last week again after no response which was meant to take 3 days to resolve. I'm now on my 6th 'business day' and received sweet nothing. All I have asked for is the itemized bill or URL links that MTN can:

1. Prove where my data usage took place

2. Prove why all of a sudden after many months with MTN and nothing different these last couple of months in terms of my usage why my bills have jumped so high

3. Any other hidden costs that I don't know about

Once MTN can show me my data expenditure and show me why my costs are sky rocketing carried out on this SIM card I am willing to pay what I owe them.

I have put a stop payment on the next invoice until MTN are able to proof for the first data usage bill. This is due to MTN's customer call centre staff having been extremely unhelpful and unaccommodating to this and are there to merely pick up a phone on the other side and that's about it. Not much to the job in my experience. In fact this service could be voice automated reaching a same result I'm sure! I just cannot afford to pay another R3000+ for something I believe I didn't use and MTN has no channels to get hold of to get this resolved ASAP so I'm not hit with another excessive bill again which I really can't afford.

I'm going to follow up after the 72 hours as I don't think I'll here from MTN. But from here at Hello Peter I'm cancelling my MTN contract and moving elsewhere as I this experience has been disgusting and I see nothing changing in my opinion. MTN are just happy to take a large sum of money off a debit order without the decency to provide a proper explanation as to why the hefty account!

The fact it’s happening to other people confirms something is fishy here and that MTN could merely just be ripping people off. Most people I know like myself can't just afford to just come up with R3000 in a month to pay a very unplanned hefty MTN bill that can't seem to be explained by the service provider themselves. That money needs to be used for other monthly expences. And the fact it takes (so far and still counting) a month to try resolve and get an explanation out of MTN is really pathetic.

Not impressed with MTN and looking forward to us parting our seperate ways. Thanks for nothing MTN.

Well Siphumezo @ MTN, thank you for your promise to restore the service delivery of MTN. Thank you - I did receive the URL's and itemised billing today after a month of requesting from MTN since end March. I am still busy going through the URL links and comparing it to the itemized billing line for line to understand what URL's these are and the date and charges related as there alot of these URL's I don't recognize as ever having come across before. I have to get to the bottom of what I am being charged for on the reports MTN has sent however if the reports are legit, and against my cell phone number I understand I still have to be liable for the bills even if the usage of some of this data is not by me but on my device.
What I would appreciate while I'm going through all this still is if MTN can please supply a number and a contact at MTN in the Accounts Department for an alternative option in settling this months 2nd excessive MTN account worth R3336+ to see if I can settle over a period of a couple of months instead of hitting me hard again all in one month. I'm willing to pay my bills. I just can't manage to pay it all in one month again. I also really don't want to go through the call centre this could lead to taking another month to get through to anyone at MTN that could help.
I'm sure this is possible to spread the payment over a 3 month period so I am able to pay the MTN bill as well as all my other bills this month effectively.
Your attention to this matter would be very helpful especially with the next payment needing to go off in the next few days. I hope MTN can assist with this matter promptly and effectively.
I'm looking forward to hearing from MTN shortly.
