Erroneous message that my number does not exist

About 12 months ago - I suddenly started getting a few people telling me that, when they call my MTN number they get the message that my number does not exist. After many requests and telephone calls to MTN and escalations and re-sets by MTN this problem is still unresolved. It appears that the callers who get "the number does not exist" message are mostly Cell C subscribers. I have also been to Cell C who say that it is an MTN problem and MTN say that it is a Cell C problem..... I am sitting ***gy in the middle with some people thinking that I am being ********* in giving them an incorrect number! My number (***) DOES exist and under NO CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOEVER should MTN EVER give out a message that my number does NOT EXIST. Please can someone with some brain power please get this sorted out - even if it means talking to the competition!

Good day Tony,

Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns and affording us the opportunity to address the same. Kindly accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Kindly note that your number is receiving the calls. The issue cannot be from MTN's side as you are not having issues with any other service provider. If you were making the call and getting the error, we would check your number range and reset which has already been done. It seems to be a problem with the number range on Cell C's side.

Kind regards,

Ishie.

Complaints Management Team.

Best regards,

TR

Dear Ishie, I do not know how inter-network communications work. All I know is that I am an MTN customer - not a Cell C customer. I therefore have no "authority" to make requests or give instructions to Cell C. The persons that have reported their inability to reach my number have communicated the same to Cell C. Their response has been that it is an MTN number and therefore it is MTN's responsibility to sort it out. I agree. I therefore wish to place the ball firmly in your (MTN) court and ask that you please communicate with Cell C and get your inter-network communication sorted out so that this "number does not exist" message goes away. Surely you must have some means of communicating with Cell C? No doubt you are very efficient at communicating with them in the case where a number needs to be "ported" from Cell C to yourselves. Please therefore communicate with Cell C and resolve this problem once and for all and stop playing "***gy in the middle" with me!
