So I get a call from Ryan Thomas about 2 weeks ago to inform me that my contract is up for renewal. At first I wasn't interested, but he pursuaded me that it'll only cost me R69 extra per month and I'll have a brand new S6 Edge. Great. So I'm in. What a can of worms did I open. The next day or two I start getting SMS messages that I've almost reached my limit. I've never had a limit on this phone. I use the phone, get a bill and then MTN debits my account at the end of the month and so the circle continues. At first I ignored the SMS messages until I try to make a call and a voice tells me that I have no airtime - NO AIRTIME ON A CONTRACT PHONE, SERIOUSLY???!!! So I phone the call centre and the agent informs me my limit is R322. How did they come up with this? So after a long discussing he agrees to have it removed. A day or two goes by and then the same thing happens again so I call again. This agent informs me it wasn't removed and that she'll do it - she even sends me a screendump on email as acknowledgement. Problem still not resolved. So I call in again the next day only to be told that the previous *********** agent loaded a limit of R0.00 - even less than what it was. He tells me the upgrade agent failed to remove the limit when he did the upgrade and that I should call *141*5# and I'll be able to set my own limit, as high as I want, but to give him 24hrs for the changes his made. So I do that and low and behold this system only gives me the option to change my limit to R259, no more. So I set the limit accordingly, try to make a call and the same voice informs me I have no airtime. So I call MTN again only to be told this time that my limit can only be changed by the credit and activation division and I should call them. So I thought, very well, I need to call them anyway as per the instruction received from the RTT delivery chap so I can activate my new phone. So I call the number provided on the document, but there's no Ryan Thomas - it's an automated activation line. So I follow the prompts to activate the micro-sim that came with the phone. The voice then confirms the activation and provides the cell number - it's different from the number I've had for probably the last 10 years or so. Again I call the call centre and I explain my whole story and eventually get told that I need to go into a store to do a sim-swop. Why should I drive out my petrol, take time out of my already busy schedule to resolve a problem that was caused by an *********** MTN employee. For all I care you can come fetch your new handset with the new sim and take your new contract and shove it where the sun don't shine. The level of incompetence I've dealth with over the past week has caused me enough frustration. I would rather drive out my petrol and walk into a Vodacom store where this process is flawless. If you still want to retain my business, resolve this matter urgently, without any further effort on my part.
