Empty promises - Total failure to cancel contract, stop debit order & refund
After months of not using her MTN internet, my elderly mother emailed MTN to cancel her contract. Was told she had to go to an MTN branch to cancel. When her retirement home lifted covid restrictions, she went to MTN to cancel in person. Was told it had to be 3 months notice (despite original contract had been taken out years before...we were under the impression it should only be 1 month so 1st point of dissatisfaction. At the end of the 3 month period, on 30 September, Mondo called to re-instate (upgrade) at a better rate. My 85 year old mother, misunderstanding what the call was about agreed. Realising her mistake, she phoned and emailed to cancel within 48 hours. She was assured contract was cancelled. On noticing money deducted from her bank account there have been numerous ongoing telephone calls to both MTN & Mondo. We have been in person to MTN Galleria who told us that Mondo has to resolve it. We have a chain of emails promising it is being resolved and someone will be in touch. Empty promises. We have asked for referal to management and also a manager's details as it is apparent that the service agents have no authority or accountability to resolve this, again no response. The last solution offered was to convert the contract to a mobile contract, for which she has no need, as MTN now says the 10 day period to cancel the contract has expired. Obviously, this is their failure to act timeously within the 10 days and not the customer, but now becomes the customer's problem. Its now February and they are still ********ly deducting my mother's money. It has caused her so much stress (as she feels ****med and taken advantage of) that I am now dealing with her financial affairs. True case of the 2 companies passing the buck, ignoring regulations & incompetence ... however quick to sell! Please think twice before entering into a sales agreement & debit order with these 2 companies.
