Easier buying a car than buying a cell phone contract

On 5 July my son and I went to MTN Cresta to upgrade a cell phone contract that was in my name and then transfer it to his name. The process took 1 and 1/2 hours during which I must have signed or initialled approximately 30 to 40 pages of conditions, and written my personal particulars on at least 12 to 15 forms. the sales assistant was pleasant and efficient, but kept producing more and more forms for ust to complete. It was a nightmare! I would have thought that a company such as MTN that operates in the digital/data arena would have devised an efficient procedure for upgrading and transferring a contract. It was an extremely unsettling customer experience to say the least.

I traded in my old car, purchased another car and arranged finance for the purchase about 2 weeks prior to this and the deal was concluded far more quickly and effeciently with most of the documentation being completed on line.

Why does buying a new cellphone contract have to be far more onerous than buying a car????
