Dual sim disabled
Please can someone tell me as to why MTN locks the second sim on dual sim phones. I currently have a company phone and personal phone and wanted to upgrade to a dual sim phone to avoid having to carry two phones but MTN is not allowing this as the second sim is locked.I do believe that this is not the case for Cell C and Telkom so should I cancel my contract and move over as MTN is not interested in supporting the needs of their customers.I also feel that MTN is not forthcoming in informing their customers about this and instead only informed if you specifically enquire about this.

Please note that MTN does not offer dual sim devices. The devices that do come with dual sim functionality usually come in 2 variants, a dual sim and single sim varieties. MTN offers the single sim variety. Should you have a dual sim device, your MTN sim will not work in it as we do not offer those devices.

Thanks for your reply. The response, however, does not indicate as to why MTN does not offer the dual sims when these devices are indeed available in the market and provided by your competitors. How does MTN ensure they maintain relevant and adapt to change if they don't allow the latest technology to their customers. Just extracts from articles that MTN should maybe consider in their market research "But the surging popularity of dual-Sim capability has already resulted in it becoming a key feature that all vendors must bear in mind if they want to make a big impact in the Middle East and Africa." "The dual-SIM smartphone market is set to grow at an impressive +40% (YoY) in 2015, with the two Asian countries, in China and India, Poised to take 74% of the market share for the year." Really disgusted that the two big telecoms companies within SA is not offering this.
