Don't open an account with MTN, you can never get back out of it!
I have immigrated and have been emailing MTN Retentions to cancel my contract with them since December 2021. They continuously gave me the run-around, never providing me with the details I was requesting. In essence, they were keeping me in a contract I no longer wished to be in, which is *******. In July 2022 I was in South Africa and went to the Morningside branch where I have been renewing my contract over the last 12 years. There I was also given the run-around. Dealing with Ntabiseng Molobi was an absolute nightmare. She phoned the wrong number 3 times (like she has never dealt with a cancelation before) and calls between her and retentions were dropped more than once. The manager wasn't available for the 3 hours I was there trying to resolve the problem. And only when I became vocal did she suddenly find the right contact person, Sibusiso Masina. He quoted me R9338,44 to cancel the contract (for two numbers), I paid in store and Ntabiseng took the letter on the business letterhead and copied my ID. I have copies and emails confirming all of this. Finally this nightmare was over. Today, 31 July 2022, MTN deducted the amount of R1049 from my account which is now a Prepaid account! They continue to deduct money for an contract that is now canceled! How much money are they *****ing from people by keeping them in contracts they don't want to be in and deducting funds after contracts are canceled? This is either utter incompetence or outright theft.
