Does anybody actually want to assist?
In November 2017 I upgraded my contract with MTN (having been a customer of their's for over 20 years). As it was Black Friday there were some 'deal makers' on offer and I understood that the contract I chose included 30 gigs of data spread over a 3 month period. After month one however I lost my Internet connection as there was no data available! When I tried to contact the store (in Woodlands Boulevard, Pretoria East) using the phone number and e-mail address provided on the shopping mall's website I could not get through. I contacted the MTN Helpdesk and was told that the 30 gigs had been loaded as a 'once-off' amount for a single month, but the Helpdesk couldn't assist me and they said it was a matter that the store in question had to resolve. I then posted a comment on the MTN Facebook page which elicited a response from Tammy (who is apparently part of the MTN Social Media Team). Tammy advised that my problem had been 'escalated' to the store manager. I received a call from the sales consultant who had helped me back in November and she basically said that I had misunderstood her and the package I chose included a 'once'off' 30 gig data bonus but it was a 3-month deal on other packages. She also distinctly recalled me saying that this once-off deal didn't interest me yet somehow I have ended up with something I specifically said wouldn't suit me! My suggestion at the time was that MTN might offer me one month of 10 gigs and the third month would fall away, thinking this might be a goodwill gesture on their behalf. Next I received an sms giving me a reference number and stating that my 'request' had been escalated (here we go again!). The very next day I received a second sms to say the matter had been resolved but not providing any details. Since then I have not been able to get a straightforward response from MTN. I contacted the Helpdesk (again) and was told (again) to take it up with the store (and gave me the same phone number as the one that went unanswered the previous week) - when I told the call-centre agent that it was difficult to get around as I walk with the aid of a stick she said 'well get someone to take you to the store then'! I have also left several more Inbox messages for MTN on Facebook - none of which have been answered. I left a second general post on Facebook giving the details of this sad saga and the response was 'please Inbox us with the details, reference number etc.' which I had in fact done a few days before! So after 12 days or so of trying to get an answer from MTN and having tried the Helpdesk, the Social Media Team and the store itself I am no closer to having this matter resolved - it would appear that a) nobody actually cares b) everyone is trying to send me in another direction instead of trying to assist c) the people I have dealt with are so *********** that they do not understand the situation and/or d) by ignoring me, MTN staff are hoping I will just fade into oblivion along with my problem! Seeing as I cannot get resolution to the matter via the accepted channels, is there another route I can follow - perhaps an ombudsman for example?
