Do not trust MTN!!
On 8/01/2020 I visited the MTN store. I requested to stop the contract I had with MTN at that point as I wanted to upgrade my phone. I paid an amount of R533.44 because I stopped the contract prematurely. I kept my old phone, and my cell phone number), and went on pay as you go. Through MTN online I ordered a new phone with a new contract. Up to this moment I have not received the new phone or signed anything regarding the new contract, but I am being billed as if I am on the new contract. I inquired numerous times regarding the new phone, and at one stage they contacted me and said that my phone will be delivered within three days, and that I must keep my ID ready, and give them an address where the phone could be delivered. I gave them my address, but the three days passed without any delivery. On 26/02/20 I received an invoice for R1944.02 for a service that I have not received. On 26/03/20 I received an invoice for R1702.93 for a service that was not rendered! On 10/04/2020 I contacted the ***** department of FNB and stopped my debit order. Since then I have been trying to contact MTN. The reason why I suspect *****, is because the number that appears on my invoice and which I have to pay for does not belong to me! When I phoned that number and spoke to the owner, he could hardly speak English, and told me that he was from the Congo! I include a certified copy of my ID, as well as proof of residence with my signature. Since then MTN has billed me for over R19 000. They handed me to a debt recovery company. The company keep on phoning and literally harassed me. NOBODY EVER CAME BACK TO ME. I have been using MTN since 1998. If they had a look at my previous records, they clearly could have noticed that I have never skipped ONE month of my debit order. I think there must be an inside job. I really think MTN is *****ing from me. I have all my correspondence from the very first time. This has been going on for over a year and still no response!!!
