Do not purchase uncapped data from MTN. It's a ****
I have an MTN contract on which there is a certain amount of data loaded every month. The reception and speed of this data is very good in the area i live. I depleted this data on 30 January and required a large amount of data for one day. I therefore proceeded to purchase R40 airtime and purchase an uncapped data bundle for one day via the *141# service. To my astonishment once loaded, the speed was unbelievably slow. So slow in fact i was unable to load whatsapp pictures. Instagram photos did not load at all and Youtube was completely unusable.
Comparing my usual speed for contract data to this purchased R40 uncapped data it looks like there is a massive drop in data speed. I even compared this to another MTN contract i have that still had contract data, the speed was good in the same area on the contract but pathetic on the purchase bundle.
I can therefore conclude a purchased uncapped data bundle is severely limited in speed to such an extent that it is a waste of money.
R40 down the drain. Not a first time I have experienced sub standard purchases from MTN.

Please note that the MTN one day uncapped bundle , which is priced at R40, provides unlimited mobile data usage for 24 hours. However, the terms & conditions state that the fair usage policy for the bundle is 150MB. Once this limit is reached, speeds are throttled to 128kbps- This means that once you have used data services amounting to 150MB, ten your connection speeds will decrease to 128kbps.
