Dissatisfaction with and misrepresentation by MTN

On 05.10.2018 I received a direct marketing call from MTN Ignition group. The consultant informed me that as a valued customer of MTN they were offering me a reduced subscription on 3 of my contracts for a period of 2 years and that I could upgrade to any device when I wanted to do so. The reduced subscription came without a device. I was very sceptical as it sounded too good to be true but the saving of over R500 per month was very appealing. I asked whether there was a cooling off period, to which the consultant rep**** that a 14 day period was in place for me to do so. On 09.10.2018, I went to the nearest MTN branch Chatsworth and was told that they could not give me a new device as I already have a 2 year contract until 2020. I immediately asked for it to be cancelled. Lo and behold my worst fears came to light as the consultant advised she was unable to cancel the reduced subscription contract which was only a few days old. I called the Ignition group whist at the branch and spoke to a Candice who advised that the MTN store must cancel the contract. The manager of the Chatsworth store was also present and listened in to the query. When the store consultant liaised with her retention dept. they advised that I have to await a 3 month period before the contract could be cancelled.

I am absolutely irate at this type of misleading and misrepresentation and at my wits end as how to cancel this contract.

At all material times the direct marketer told me that I could upgrade to any device and could cancel this contract within 14 days. Only to find I was unable to do both.

This leaves a bitter pill to swallow as I was under a misconception that there are still honourable service providers who would ensure that customer service is paramount to the culture of their business. I am absolutely disillusioned by this experience and await a miraculoucus resolution to the cancellation of this contract and the ability of renewing a normal contract with a device of my choice
