Disrespectful MTN staff member
I have experienced the most appalling treatment by a staff member of MTN Jubilee Mall. His name is Thabiso and he stands by the door to sanitize patrons. I went there today on the 21st May 2020 to purchase a SIM card for schools purposes (UNISA deal with Mtn). This was a pressing matter that required me to leave the house as I will be writing my exams from next week, so I had a very good reason to be at the store.
This young man asked me if I have my Id and proof of res. I said yes however my bank statement is on my emails, I will just email to the person assisting me at the counter. Thabiso REFUSED me entry into the store, telling me that I must go print my bank statement. I was confused because I have an Mtn contract and I have been assisted before without having a physical proof of residence. Why do I have to go queue at the bank to print a statement for which I will get charged and expose myself further to the covid risk. I don’t understand why service is so non-existent at the store.
And when I finally got the bank statement, the attitude and manner in which he sanitized my hands, he was deliberately being slow and having an “I don’t care attitude”.
All in all the staff kept on finding reasons not to assist me. The lady at the counter told me that she cannot assist me as I’m having a driver’s license which doesn’t make sense because I have a contract with MTN and have been a loyal customer for years, only to get such treatment.
My question is why are we subjected to treatment like this in rural and smaller towns whereas when we go to the stores in large metropolitans we get better treatment and better service? Are people in rural and smaller towns not receiving the same training in terms of how patrons/customers should be treated ? I hope that next time I visit the store, the staff members will have better attitudes
