Dishonesty and poor service from MTN (YET AGAIN)

Over the past however many years I have been with MTN, I have only had extremely poor service and a total disregard for customers. This was experienced yet again today when I received a statement from MTN despite having cancelled by contract effective 10 May 2017. When I phoned customer service I was advised that my contract was not cancelled. Here is the background: I call on 10 April 2017 (reference ********** 5) to give 30 days' notice to cancel effective from 10 May 2017. I am put through to Retentions from Customer Service - I hold for an excess of 15min before being cut off. I call back 6 times in 10min and get a message that the nr does not exist! I send an email to customer service explaining what happened and giving 30 days notice to cancel expressly stating that "MTN’s debit order against my account will be stopped as from May 2017 and I will not be liable for any costs after 10 May 2017". I receive a response asking for answers on security questions so the request can be processed, I answer it on the same day. Now today customer service tells me that I WILL pay or else I will be blacklisted - I did not know that MTN was in the business of threatening its clients like that. When I asked on what basis I am obliged to pay past the date from which my contract was cancelled, I was simply advised that I WILL pay - I insist that management go and listen to that recording (24 May around 11:15). Again I asked that my question be answered and was met with snotty attitude and comments. I was put through to Retention who advised that MTN sent me an email after my email to them on 10 April 2017 advising that I should call Retentions to cancel (i.e. that my email notice was not sufficient). This is nothing other than dishonesty! I have received no such email and have record of the actual email received, which asked for security questions to be answered. Rententions insisted that I did not give notice and that my contract is not cancelled. She even went as far as to suggest that you cannot cancel your contract on email. When I advised her that she is lying because I looked at my terms and conditions which said you can either call or email, she just kept quiet. When I asked the lady to give me her email so I could forward the email from Customer Services to her, she disappeared and when she came back she simply said the request was put through and would be processed in 2 o 3 days. Again, nothing is said as to what the effective date of the cancellation would be. Seems almost impossible to cancel my contract. I specifically recorded that I will NOT pay for anything after 10 May 2017 to MTN and that my debit order has been cancelled. The ref nr of this call is ********** 45.

I will never in my life go near MTN ever again. And I know that I am not the first person to have issues with cancelling their contract with MTN. The hold they think they have over you in regards to contracts need a serious review. As a consumer I feel like I am being held at ransom because of MTN's poor services and system management (or dishonesty).
