Disheartening customer service

Upgraded my MTN contract to an iPhone on Sunday 1 November. Yesterday it sounded like an internal component was loose. I took it to the iStore where a technician confirmed that it is an out of box failure. He offered to replace it, but since I got it directly from MTN I had to go there.

The MTN consultant and a manager(which I suspect was another consultant) were adamant that it is not an out of box failure, that it's been 8 days since I got the phone, and that it MAY get repaired. I expressed my dismay at this but they seemed indifferent to what I was saying.

They told me that I can book the phone in, but it won't be taken for repairs until Tuesday(10 November) since the courier only comes twice a week to collect phones, and when it's received by the repair center, it will take 7-10 working days. The other option they offer me is to drive to Midrand myself.

Not only am I being forced to go without a phone I'm paying R600+ per month for at least 2+ weeks, they aren't willing to replace my device when the iStore would have if I had taken the same MTN contract there.

I was warned against MTN, but never believed it. I will find it hard to recommend MTN to anyone now.
