Disgusted by lack of service

I have a cell phone contract which was migrated from Autopage cellular to MTN in April 2016. I received an sms from MTn that i am eligible for an upgrade. As an Iphone user, i went through to the iStore to upgrade on the 24th December 2016. Imagine my embarresment when it declines on a screen as account in collection Plan. I then have to ask that they hold the ONLY Iphone 7 Plus 128GB in Gold that they had for me. Then starts the debacle. I call the MTN callCentre and speak to an agent who advises I am 30 days in arrears. I express my amazement as I have a debit order than runs religiously. They debit my account for what's due so how can i be in arrears? She then suggests i make a manual payment and go to the MTN store with proof of payment, to clear it and that should resolve the issue as payments will take 2 to 24 hrs to clear. So I do the transfer (on the 26th Dec 2016) and go to the store. I travel to the MTN at the Mall at which the Istore is located so I can go on to do the upgrade. Bear in mind the phone is only being held until the 26th. When i go the store, the very kind gentleman explains that he has no idea why the call centre agent asked me to come to the store as they can't do anything to clear the payment. He checks his system and advised my account is up to date, with no arrangement or collection plan. He does try to do an upgrade to check and on that system he finds it stating account in collection plan. He advised me to call the call centre.

I call and speak to an agent who insists I'm in arrears. I ask for the Team leader. A Blessing eventually comes on who was utterly useless. When i asked when is a payment due after statement closes he says 7 days?? I have since checked my emailed statement and it shows 21 days. what sort of management do they have there. I disconnect the call.

I then call the next day to check if payment cleared. Low and behold, it has not - yet I was told 2-24hrs. Note my debit order was still to run the 31st. I am, then told Email credit management the proof. I ask if paying on public holiday affected payment showing and I'm assured absolutely not. I email Creit management and explain all on email as advised. This is the 28th December. I get an reponse on the 30th that payment is allocated and I can proceed with the upgrade. I go on the 31st back to the Mall but go to MTN to double check. The lady tries the upgrade and low and behold same message. i show her teh email from justin at Credit management and she asks that i respond to him, which I do on the 31st December 2016. I get a reponse from latasha Petersen on teh 4 Jan 2017 thankign me for submitting payment and it will be allocated?? what is that about? was she not reading the previous emails?

I respond, quite angry and even tell them its their Helios upghrade system they need to check and I ask for her or Justin to call me.

I receive no call but an email from her again on the 9th Jan 2017 saying there is no payment plan on account and upgrade will go through. she clearly had no clue of what the issue was. I know there's no plan. I respond yet again on the 9th Jan stating that shecheck that system and that its the 3rd or 4th screen. Note, i'm the customer and need not explain how their system works.

Next response from them on the 10th Jan from an Olga who says again there is no payment plan. Am I in an alternate universe with Imbeciles???

I call the call centre on the 11th and insist on talking to Justin, Olga or Latasha - all of whom i asked to call me. in my final email to Olga i put CALL ME in Caps. The Callcentre agent states that i cannot speak to credit management - can only email them. I blew my top off to whioch she responds she won't have that.

Who the hell am I and who is she? i'm the client. Instead of finding a solution she jsut gives that stupid response. I ask for the manager. He/she was very conveniently on a another call so I must leave my details. i had already entered my cell number but guess what they didn't have it!!!

This is pure incompetence. No one is taking ownership and the department that should be dealing the issue is unreachable excpet by email. In what century are we?

Thank you for your post

We apologize for the delayed response and for any inconvenience incurred.

Please be advised that the upgrade is being declined because of your previous MTN account A****856, we have requested the legal department to assist with updating the account status accordingly.

We understand that the entire experience must be very frustrating and hope that we can restore your faith in us.

Kind Regards
Siphumezo
