So I have had a contract with MTN since 2008. I have never had any problems. Now, due to finances, I want to cancel my contract, so that I don't have that expense every month. I contact the Retentions Department to ask how much it will be to just cancel the contract, because I understand that I have to finish paying the phone and all that. I get an email back from Mbolokazi Mgemane, telling my my estimate is as follows:
Handset value R11,569.79+ 15% = R 13,305.25 (this is the same, maybe more than for a new phone, my phone is a year old)
Unbilled Invoice R 901.52
Billed Invoice R 1,004.03
Estimated Total= R 15,210.80
Now, I have no problem with the unbilled and billed invoices, that I get, but why do I have to pay for a brand new phone if my phone is already a year old? So I rep**** and asked them to please explain to me how they got to that amount.
This is their reply:
Good day,
Thank you for your email the amount is higher when you cancel the contract before expiry alternatively you could carry on with the monthly subscription until the contract expires.
Best regards, Catherine Phiri MTN Retentions
So the amount is "higher"? Why? ****************? Is this how they thank you for being a loyal customer for more than 10 years? I rep**** and said that maybe I will just give them my phone and stop paying anything. That will be cheaper for me, and they won't be able to do anything about it.
This is what you get by trying to do the right thing and following the rules.
Thanks MTN, but if I ever take out another cellphone contract, it will be with one of your competitors.
Best regards,
Best regards,
