Dis-satisfied and Disillusioned MTN customer.
I am a senior citizen and rely on internet for my TV entertainment.
I purchased an MTN LTE contract for my little home-office as we had no Fibre in my area during the latter part of 2019.
A few months thereafter I purchased another LTE contract for my domestic use again with MTN after hearing that their service was far superior when compared to my then current provider....no throttling hence no buffering etc.
Sadly this was not the case.
January /February 2020 we had Fibre optic cable installed my area.
I immediately requested that I be migrated to Supersonic as we now have Fibre optic cable in our area but was told that I would have to purchase a new contract and/or pay-up the balance outstanding on the previously purchased contracts.
I stated my position, that I am 70 years old, have very little entertainment apart from watching TV and now with COVID 19 restricted even further by being housebound and that the service being received was substandard.
From December to date we are experiencing download speed issues.
Instead of migrating me to Fibre, MTN had a Contractor come out and install 2 Masts, make adjustments to masts, readjust settings which has taken all of this year to rectify and we still do not have the quality of service that was promised and expected.
2 Days ago an extender/access point was installed and has made no difference to the service. The room in particular that has the problem cannot connect to the new access point.
Today we have WiFi but no Internet with that newly installed router/modem.
Yesterday I get told by the contractor that I am liable for R1'500 being the cost of installing the Masts [which were donated by somebody unknown to me] the access point/router and the installation of same. I did not engage the services of this contractor neither did I agree to pay for any of the services that was provided by this contractor. All I did was requested that the service provided be as advertised, 10MB/s, without any buffering.
I did not enquire about the cost of all the additional works and equipment installed as I did not authorize any of it, all I did was ask that the service be improved failing which migrate me to Fibre.
The contractor voluntereed to assist with the Access point and at no point did he state that any of that would be for my own cost.
I am very dis-satisfied with MTN and it's contractor.
