I am currently trying to cancel a contract with MTN. It has been fully paid off as of this month. I sent an email to MTN and they rep**** with instructions on what I should do. In the email it stated that I should call 083135 a day after the contract is fully paid and select option 4. I tried to do this and it did not work- firstly there was no “option four” and secondly I was asked for the phone number that is linked to the contract which I do not have anymore. With other network providers all I’ve had to do is provide my ID number so I’m not sure why I wasn’t given the same option with MTN. I then went to the MTN store closest to me. The man assisting me was very helpful and let me use his phone to call the MTN cancellations department. They then proceeded to transfer me to Mondo. The man on the phone was also very kind and informed me that he could not assist me with the cancellation and he was not sure why they transferred me to him. He then provided me with the CallCenter number. I called them and they said that I had to call the cancellations department again. They said that I needed to select option three. Option three is for porting numbers to MTN and has nothing to do with cancellations. This contract that I have was for my ex boyfriends mother because she could not get a contract for herself. So for obvious reasons, now that the contract is fully paid off I would like to cancel it. I’m not exactly sure why it’s so difficult to complete the cancellation. I have been given different instructions from different people which has been very confusing and I have not been able to successfully cancel the contract. I have also been sent an SMS saying that I have to pay R600 next month for this contract which is R100 more than the monthly instalments I have been making monthly. The man in the store sent an email to retentions to cancel my contract and stated that I needed to return in three days to see the status of the cancellation. He then gave me a form which states that they can still bill me for this period of time. I don’t find this to be fair because I was told to wait until the day after the contract was fully paid off to cancel. I don’t see why it’s necessary to charge me The man in the store sent an email to retentions to cancel my contract and stated that I needed to return in three days to see the status of the cancellation. I don’t see why it’s necessary to charge me more than the initial payments agreed upon when the contract is now fully paid off.
