Data theft
I have been a faithful MTN customer for more than 15 years and this is the worst customer care and service I have received from any company. MTN customer care is unprofessional and uncaring for their customers. What they are doing is simply theft. On the 23rd of May 2023, I converted close to R80 of airtime into 1 gig of data. I took the "Work from Home" option. I want to insist that it is not the first time I take that option. I am working in the medical field and because of loadshedding, I have missed few emails so my goal was to have access to my emails and the internet. As I mentioned earlier, I used that option before without problems. For few days I could not connect to the internet or received emails, I decided to call the MTN customer care line at around 09h00. I spoke to a lady by the name of Sihle. I explained to her that every time I want to connect to the internet, I have a message stating that I am out of data. She said she will reset my account and that I needed to switch my phone off for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, my issue was not resolved so I called again. This time I spoke to Siphelele who guarantee that it will work after switching off my phone for 5 minutes. Still nothing. I called again and I was told to do the same for few minutes, which I did but no result. Then I spoke to another lady who transferred me to pre paid department where I was told that "Work from Home" option is for people who works from home and only works for Zoom, Skype, Msteam. I told her that I was not aware of this and nowhere it is mentioned. I told her all I need is to convert those datas to an option that will allow me to receive emails and surf. She said only customer care can do that and she transfer me back to them, I then spoke to a gentleman by the name of Cyril who told me there is nothing they can do, either I make use of zoom or I left my datas expire. I asked to speak to a manager and I was told they send an email for a manager to contact me within 2 hours. I mentioned to him that it will not happen. I asked him the name of the manager who was supposed to call me back. Her name is Kadonkazi Ndota. It is now 16h48 and I am still waiting for the manager to call back. I called back I spoke to Cyril again and I told him that nobody has contacted me, then he send me to a branch. At the Cresta branch I was first told to let it expire and buy new datas or call the customer care and get an email address as I wanted to complain. I also told the agent to show me where on the USSD menu it is mentioned that "Work from Home" option is only for Skype, Zoom and Msteam. She refused. I called the customer care and I spoke to Aphikile who could not help so I asked to speak to a manager and she transferred me to another agent by the name of Siphokazi. I told her that I was tired to repeat myself over and over again and if she could not help, she should transfer me to a manager but she said could help. After explaining to her she said I need to buy new data and let those ones expired as should known that "Work from Home" option was not for emails or surfing the internet. I asked for an email address but she referred me to the website. I told her I can't go to the internet and she should give me the email over the phone, she refused. I can't believe MTN has the courage to use as slogan "It is all about u". This is misleading and false. What they are doing is nothing else but theft. They cannot tell me to wait until my data expired. I didn't even ask for a refund but rather a conversion and they refuse to do it. I am not impressed.
