Data depletion - ***
I recently logged a call with MTN whereby i advised them that my data was being depleted without it being used. I firstly logged a call with MTN Waterstone in Somerset west, where i got excellent service (Ref : ********** 24).. however after that it went downhill .. I have been given the run around by the consultant, giving me all sorts of excuses as to why my data has been running out, however when advising that i manually change my settings as and when i need to access either whats-app.. for the other applications are all switch off, the analyst requested i visit an I-store because he can't help and that i have to wait for the results of the report.. however the challenge i have is that we going in for the 2nd week and i am yet to receive feedback. consultants that i had called as follows: Mbali (Ref: ********** 01) Janine Hartnick (Ref: ********** 24) and now Luyanda Ngobo (Ref: ********** 20)
Can someone please who actually understand how to resolve a query contact me.
I am very disappointed in the current service delivery, and to top it all i am paying for none-service delivery.
Good day Quinton,
Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns and affording us the opportunity to address them.
We notice that your query has already been logged and resolved by our data technicians as per SMC/***. An email has been sent to *** with the usage report of the 500MB data bundle you had queried about.
Herewith below are some of the causes of airtime and data use that may be unexpectedly affecting users:
· Subscription to a WASP service, which charges you daily.
· Out-of-bundle data rates can quickly deplete airtime.
· Automatic software updates can consume large amounts of data.
· High-definition content on YouTube and social media platforms consume large amounts of data.
· Uncapped data bundles from MTN must be activated before use.
· New smartphones and faster networks mean data is used quicker.
· Viruses can access your Internet connection and consume data.
Herewith below are some of the steps users can take to mitigate unexpected data and airtime use:
· Unsubscribe from all WASPs if you suspect undesired billing. dial *141*5# option 4 to check any subscription's registered on your sim.
· Switch off your data connection when you’re not using it. Apps often use data in the background.
· Avoid out-of-bundle charges by purchasing data bundles.
· Turn off automatic updates over mobile data connections – use fixed-line connectivity via Wi-Fi for updating apps and software.
· Limit music and movie streaming using a mobile data connection.
· Ensure you activate uncapped daily data bundles before using the Internet.
· Check how much data apps use and adjust usage where possible to avoid using a mobile data connection.
· Install an anti-virus program, such as Norton or Symantec, on your device to avoid viruses.
· Pay attention to mobile data SMS notifications.
· Android and iOS have built-in features to track data consumption, accessed via the Settings menu.
We sincerely hope that the above is in order and that we are able to restore your faith in us.
Kind Regards,
Tshepo M
