Data Bundle Theft
I have decided to discontinue using MTN as a cellular service because of the appalling conditions attached to data bundle purchases.
At no point was I made aware that data purchased from MTN has an expiry limit of 1 month. This was not communicated to me via the FNB app that I purchased it from, nor was it communicated to me via SMS. MTN is happy to send almost daily irritating spam SMSs but won't notify me of this ridiculous time limit.
I have now been informed that I'm going to lose almost half of the amount of data I purchased in two days time. This is blatant theft. I have paid for this data and it is now going to be taken off of my account for absolutely no reason. This is also supposed to have stopped as of 4 years ago when MTN stated that they would not apply anything less than a 60 day expiry limit on their packages.
Regardless of the actual limit, as a customer I would expect to be notified of this expiry upon purchase. More so when the limit is so short. I have never had these issues with Vodacom and no one I know has had these issues with CellC - and would never have purchased the amount that I did if I had known.
When I called the call center the agent was very testy and irritable with me and I felt uncomfortable pushing the matter further. My assumption is that these call center agents have to deal with this all the time, because I can't imagine any customer being happy about their money being ****** from them.
I hope that these small quantities are worth the loss of customers for this service. I look forward to using a more reliable and honest service provider, and would not recommend MTN to anyone.
