A write up of how MTN treat the senior citizen customers. Let me provide background. My dad died in 2012 and my mother's mobile contract was with Nashua Mobile in his name. We have transferred the contract into her name in 2013. We have been informed somewhere in 2014, without option, that the contact has been sold to MTN and this is where our challenges started. Although the current contract was near it's end, MTN create a new 24 month contract and then refuse to change the contract duration. Then, they extend the contract without our consent to January 2018 and down grade her to a contract with only call time at approx R2.30 per minute. (Vodacom is currently charging a R0.79 flat rate.)
Don't even try to contact their call centre for assistance. Fairly useless!
Needless to say we will ensure that this contract isn't extended (one side again) at the end of January 2018. We will transfer it to another vendor.
By the way, my mother is 86 year old. Thank you MTN for the way you treating elderly people
Thank you for your post.
We sincere apologized for any inconvenience incurred.
Kindly be advised that the contracts for Nashua was transferred to MTN December 2014 due to Nashua clients used MTN network for connection. However that time they will not billed by MTN.
You make the statement that the contract was upgraded without the customer permission. We have not received any affidavit with the clear ID copy where the client reported this incident. The upgrade was done online with the client/customer.
This contract expires 2018-01-27.
The account holder need to contact the 808 call center for assistance with the cancellation request, cancellation is required 30 days before the contract expires. This is to remove the number from the network.
Prepaid migration no need for 30 days, prepaid migration can be done a day after the contract expires. The client will keep the number and airtime can be loaded after the contract has been cancelled on the 28-1-2018.
Kind Regards,
Alice van der Merwe
