CONTRACT UPGRADED BUT UPGRADED CELL PHONE NEVER DELIVERED
I attempted to upgrade my cell phone contract on 1st August 2017. MTN duly started charging the new rate and now shows my next upgrade date as 1st August 2019, but has never delivered the iPhone 7 256GB handset. The process of trying to get MTN to either deliver or cancel the upgrade has been an exercise of great frustration and wasting of my valuable time. Many calls to various people in the various call centres with no result. Eventually, as a final resort, I hand delivered a formal letter to MTN Rivonia, attention the manager (Thato Maphiri) on 12th November. This letter requested the situation to be rectified by 24th November, failing which I would cancel the monthly debit order on my bank account. Needless to say, no reaction was forthcoming from the letter and I duly cancelled the debit order and stopped using the sim card. MTN, however, uses a different reference number every month on the debit order so now it cost me R35 in bank charges monthly to reverse the debit that they keep processing to my bank account. In the 40 years of my commercial life I have never had a problem with a large reputable South African company that could not be sorted out with a bit of communication. With MTN, however, I give up.
