Contract Sim Swap Hassles

MTN has struck again, I take off my hat to MTN, Please continue with your awful service, your are doing a great job *sacrasm.

So in 2016 i received a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge which is on contract and insurance. I used the phone for about 14/15 months up until it got lost and MTN insurance as usual gave us the run around up until i hello peter'd them. so eventually i got my replacement devise now to get connected again, i need a Contract Sim Swap, bare in mind that over and above the contract amount i receive monthly i also top up my account with airtime so mtn is making money of me.

So i initially went to MTN Campus square to do the sim swap on thursday afternoon after i received the replacement phone, the guy curteously explained that i have to update the devise details with the insurance and to do the sim swap in which the contract holders identity document, proof of residence and a letter authosing the sim swap and my identity document and proof of residence as well and the amount of R132, is needed, so friday i asked the contact holder to send me the required documents on their part and of which i received.

Saturday morning i went to MTN Maponya Mall with the phone and the required documents to do the swim swap but to my dismay they turned me away saying they required the contract holder in person, i further went to MTN campus square, unfortunately the guy who helped me during the week was not there but the guys that were there said the documents i had were insufficient they required two forms of identification like an id and a drivers license because they are a franchise branch, so i asked them what if the contract holder has only an id as a form of identification, and no other form of identification could be presented other that id, meaning that the contract holder has no passport nor drivers license, they also turned me away, i went to MTN in Newtown Junction and they wanted an affidavit from the contract holder. I contated the contract holder and she said that she is willing to confirm her details telephonically and consent to the sim swap.

if you can take up a new contract telephonically why should it be a problem giving consent of a sim swap telephonically. Mtn should be adaptive and dynamic in their thinking

MTN why is there no clear and precise protocol for getting a contract sim swap?

There running from MTN to MTN is frustrating, all i want is to get connected with my friends and loved ones. What upsets me is that i cannot use any simcard besides the one the insurance knows and has listed. This is very upsetting because receiving a contract phone as a gift will lead to such misery and inconvinience. I have had pretty much of MTN, im just waiting for the contract to conclude, Vodacom and Cell C or even Telkom Mobile seem so attractive right about now.

whats more important to MTN ? getting your client connected or making the run around getting documents that you wont even look at. what im sure of is that the service i got today most clients in the same predicament as me receive it.

After the runaround that i experienced i thought i was going to be able to call my girlfriend and see how she is doing but instead im on hello peter pouring my heart out .

This is really really a huge inconvinience

Thank you for your post.

Kindly note that sim swap can only be done through the stores and there requirements depend on the request. However due to the fact that you are not the account holder they required te proof.

The sim swap was done on the 8th.

Kind Regards,

Alice van der Merwe

Best regards,
