CONTRACT CANCELLATION PROBLEM

In approximately April 2024, I entered into a 2-for-1 cellphone contract with MTN. At the time of concluding the agreement, I consented to the monthly instalments being deducted via debit order from my bank account.

Subsequently, in February 2025, I entered into an additional agreement with MTN for a WiFi router on contract. I agreed that the monthly payment for the WiFi router would also be processed via debit order and incorporated into the monthly debit order for my existing cellphone contract.

However, within a few months I discovered that the debit orders processed by MTN did not reflect the correct contractual amounts for both the cellphone contract and the WiFi router. Around the same period, I also experienced issues with the functionality of the WiFi router as the internet service was not working as expected.

Thereafter, I became aware that my account had been handed over to NuDebt for collection on 01 September 2025 in the amount of R21 427.06. I was informed that I could either settle the outstanding amount in full or enter into payment arrangements. I accordingly entered into payment arrangements with NuDebt and honoured the agreed payment plan.

On 07 March 2026, I made my final payment in the amount of R3 227.00 to NuDebt, thereby settling the account in full. On 11 March 2026, I received confirmation from NuDebt that the account had been paid in full, together with a paid-up letter and a full statement. I was further informed that the matter would be escalated to MTN for the purpose of delisting the account.

I have emailed MTN's legal department about 2/3 weeks to cancel my contract but still have not received any response back from them. I am so frustrated because it's almost the 25th again and I'm scared they might deduct again and if they do i will reverse the payment because i have tried by all means to cancel this contract.

DO NOT TAKE UP A CONTARCT WITH MTN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
