Contract Cancellation *****

Were do I even start.

In May 2021 I moved from South Africa to Namibia. I have had a MTN contract for many years and have always been happy with their service, sadly I had to cancel it now as I could not keep paying for a South African contract if I am not living in South Africa.

Which I did, I went into the nearest store and wanted to cancel the contract. I was informed that I cannot do this in store but need to phone the customer service number. I think it took me 5 or 6 calls that lasted a total of 6 hours in order to cancel it. I finally had received an amount that I needed to pay as a early cancellation fee, which I completely understand and was happy to pay. The bank details supp**** to me via e-mail did not work hence I went in store once again and made payment. (5 May 2021)

After my second time going to the store I once again had to phone the customer care number to ensure that my contract was now cancelled. I received an SMS from MTN stating my contract has been cancelled.

I finally new that all my arrangements had been completed and could leave South Africa know I had done all my "admin" with MTN.

In August after having left and been gone for 2 months debit orders starting going off my account for guess who - MTN!!!!!

This continues to date, I have sent 18 e-mail requesting help and sending them all the information with regards to my cancellation and asking them to please cancel the contract . Which I did - but they obviously did not do.

I tried to close my South African bank account to prevent these debit orders from going off but I cannot close my account due to the "pending MTN debit orders."

The total amount to date that MTN owes me is:

R 1916.51 - debit orders

R 792 - bank fees monthly due to me not being able to close my account.

TOTAL R2708,51

I have never in my life been so disappointed and felt absolutely cheated and violated by such a big corporate company. They keep taking my money and I cannot do a single thing.

Is this the type of service you want to give your customers?

Regards Inga
