Consumer exploitation - these guys are the worst after sales service providers
MTN must have the worst after sales customer service in South Africa.
I have attempted to cancel my contract on several occasions and I have experienced painful processes:
1. email cancellations - there has never been a response despite more that 5 attempts (here are my reference numbers for which I have not had a response: #***; #***; #***; #***; #***; #***) - the automated response states they are experiencing unusually high email volumes but some of these reference are over a month old. It seems to related to more related to laziness in cancelling contracts. 2. Calling is an impossibility - some numbers do not work, while other numbers do not give you the options to get through to an agent. It seems to be that MTN has configured a process to make it extremely difficult to cancel contracts. This makes business sense for MTN while exploiting its consumers. 3. I have gone in store to cancel. This, at first seemed to be an easy process but then they wanted to charge a R1000 cancellation fee. I can understand this if I got a device, but I got a sim only contract - I got just a SIM card which costs no more than R5. More ways to exploit consumers.
I simply want to cancel a contract that I cannot use. I was under the impression that I would be able to have mobile data, but it is fixed to my address (so I cannot use it on the road). Also, I have to have a very specific router that only MTN sells at exorbitantly high process for the sim to work.
MTN, cancel my contract. MTN consumers - be careful of what MTN sells you and do not expect any after sales support - it is a difficult process that has been purposefully designed to make it difficult for consumers to change anything. Exploiting consumers and not supporting them.
