Completely misled over upgrade - ****

In January I was contacted by a person presenting themselves as MTN service provider offering me an upgrade. I stated that I didn't want an upgrade as I hadn't decided which device I wanted. The person told me that I could just upgrade the contract (which would be cheaper) and then when I decided what phone I wanted I could just add that to the contract by going to any MTN store. This was important so I verbally clarified this was the case and then went ahead. I have just come to MTN to add an iPhone 8 to be told that this isn't possible because I upgraded in January. The representive in the store identified that the upgrade was actually done by a company called CCI to whom MTN sub-contract. (At no time did the person who did the upgrade make this clear claiming to be 'from MTN). Having called CCI they claim they will listen to the phone call and get back to me and will cancel the upgrade if I was misled. Given the company wilfully misled me in January I have no confidence that they will do this honestly if at all. I am also pretty appalled that MTN use a patently disreputable company for this and then basically accept no responsibility. Meanwhile I waste my time and can't add a new phone to the contract which I need to do urgently. Pieter at the Constantia store stated that this sort of thing 'happens all the time'. VERY UNIMPRESSED I expect MTN to take responsibility for the disreputable conduct of CCI as their agents - and rapidly sort things such that I can take a contract from the Constantia MTN store with the device I require.

Thank you for your post

We would like to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused, please note that your requests have been met as per your postings on Hellopeter.

I picked up that that the CCI SP has cancelled the upgrade (on ***) they misled you to take and that your matter is resolved accordingly.

To be certain that a call you receive is indeed from MTN please take the deiails (name, surname, MTN department and a reference number) of the caller and ask them to contact you later.
This will give you time to verify information by calling MTN SP (135 free call from an MTN network number).

We would like to thank you for your patronage and continued support as a subscriber and trust that you stay with MTN SP
