complaint - am forced to give a star
+-12th November 2023 I upgraded a contract with MTN in store, as per usual arrangements were made to debit to my Credit Card. On 17th Novembe2023 I received bank notification via SMS that a “Recurring Purchase” had been made at MTN using my credit card details. Long story short, since my credit card had to be cancelled and replaced by a new one, and after much correspondence back and forth with various departments at MTN, I wrote to MTN Complaints Management advising that unless they provided proof that the defaulter was “brought to book”, I would not provide them with my new Credit Card details, but would continue to pay in store, which I continued to do to date. On the 05th July 2023 I went in store and paid the total Statement amount, plus another 03 cents in error. On the 10th July 2023 I received 3 MTN notifications on my phone via SMS, stating that my account had been updated as per my request, and, if this was not at my request then to contact MTN ***** Dept. which I immediately attempted to do, but after the 3rd attempt I decide to send them an e mail; I was “automatically provided with a “case number”, and to this day I am still waiting for someone to make contact with me. I surmise that “someone” within MTN tried to debit my “cancelled” credit card which was automatically rejected – obviously – and for what reason did they have to even try – I have no idea since the account was up to date and settled on the 05 July 2023. Due to this above incident I was charged a “penalty” (for the rejected amount) which although I have emphatically objected to paying, MTN still refuses to refund this amount; although the figure is menial, it is a “matter of principle” - Why should I pay for a staff member’s error? That is if it was an error– who knows – they could’ve been testing the waters to see if the card could be “used”. They have either ignored my complaints or refuse to reverse the charge. MTN’s service is disgusting – that is of course, unless one wishes to take out a contract then they “dribble’ at one’s feet.
