Complaint Against MTN and Nu Debt for Unfair Practices

Improper Handling of Account: MTN handed over my account to Nu Debt without following due process and without providing me with adequate notice or the opportunity to rectify the situation directly with MTN.

Uninformed Collection Fees: Upon settling the outstanding amount, I was informed by Nu Debt that I owed an additional R389.00 as collection fees. These fees were never communicated to me prior to or at the time of settlement. This lack of transparency is both unfair and misleading.

Continuous Contact Post-Settlement: Despite making payments as per the agreed-upon schedule, I have continued to receive calls and SMS messages from Nu Debt demanding further payments. This persistent contact is distressing and amounts to harassment, particularly since the account is paid up. On the 04/07/2024 I received a final letter of demand from Nu Debt Management demanding an amount of R3370 whereas in June 2024 the statement from Nu Debt reflected an outstanding balance of R3012.00 regardless of the payment made on 25/06/2024 for R3000. The continued harassment has been going on since day one, even though the payments are made as per the arrangement.

I have request the National Credit Regulator to investigate this matter and take appropriate action to address these unfair practices. Specifically, I seek the following resolutions:

A waiver of the R389.00 collection fees that were not disclosed upfront. An assurance that I will no longer be contacted regarding this account, as it has been settled. An investigation into the practices of MTN and Nu Debt to ensure compliance with the National Credit Act. I trust that the NCR will handle this complaint with the seriousness it deserves and take swift action to rectify these issues.
