I use MTN Fixed LTE through Afrihost. I want to mention that Afrihost has provided a fantastic service, but things get difficult when they or I have to deal with MTN. We have been trying to notify MTN of a cell tower that is not working in the Knysna Heights area, Afrihost has lodged an official query. My router says that there's signal but there's no internet. It is the same for my landlords MTN moblie phone on the same property, and friends of mine that also use MTN Fixed LTE in my area. Both Cell C and MTN are down because they are using the same tower, we can make calls and send SMSs but there's no 2G, 3G or 4G internet.
I have been using this service for more than 3 months now and I was very happy with it. On Friday the 14th, just after load shedding at 4pm all of my internet died and it is still dead. I understand that these things happen, but it should not be so difficult to notify MTN of the fault. I need to know whether this is being fixed or not so that I can find another provider if need be.
I even went to the local MTN shop here in Knysna where the sales guy told me that there is no coverage in my area, even though I have been using the service for 3 months... He did not log any kind of query and did not help in any way. I did however find out afterwards that he is well known for having a bad attitude.
Afrihost has now made an official query, I have asked for support on the MTN website and I have written this review, there is not much else that I can do to notify them of this problem, I just hope they hear me.
Internet has become crucial to the little bit of business that is still possible in SA, we have to have good communication from our internet providers.
