Certified copies not acceptable for MTN

I wanted to take out a new contract but was informed that a certified copy of my ID was not acceptable. I needed to bring my original ID. Yeah, so that they could make an (uncertified) copy of it. Makes complete sense. <br> Since when is a certified copy of one's ID not acceptable? Really, MTN?
