In March 2020, 2 days before the pandemic lockdown, I decided to enter into a contract for a new cell phone with MTN at Clearwater Mall. My existing contract with Vodacom had expired, years before and I was on a monthly contract, which I subsequently cancelled. I was then told that due to the lockdown regulations, no porting of cell numbers was allowed. I waited for about 3 weeks for the ban to be lifted. I was in constant contact with both the sales person and the store manager who advised me to come in and sign the contract and pick up the phone and new SIM card. He assured me that once the porting was done everything would be smooth sailing. Vodacom did their porting and now it was up to MTN to do their bit. It has been 5 weeks and the porting has still not been done by MTN, apparently due to the introduction of a "new system", it appears that there are problems with this new system that no one can fix.In addition to this the new system only allows the sales person and the store manager access to my deal/contract. What happens when they are not there? I still have the new phone which is now a great paperweight. I even went to the MTN head office, in 14th Avenue, and I was told by a security guard, that the Customer Care Center is closed until further notice, and I should take up the problem at the " Mall Shop" I have been told that there are other customers with the same problem. How can MTN introduce a new system with bugs, poorly trained staff who have to take the verbal abuse from frustrated customers, and almost no follow up from the so called customer care center. MTN. Wake up and sort this problem out.
