CELLPHONE CONTRACT CANCELLATION LETTER
I took out a cellphone contract with MTN in February 2020. The handset was incorrect, and I took it back and cancelled the contract this next day. I was advised that the cancellation will be done as it is within the 7 days cooling off period After numerous calls, visits to the shop, calls to their head office and call centre, I was assured the cancellation was done. However, for the past 3 months, MTN has been deducting for the contract. My number has also not been ported back, which MTN said will take a maximum of 10 working days. I have had to change all my online accounts, mobile banking, business cards, medical aid, and lots of other applications that I use with my number for authentication. This caused me immense psychological stress and depression, as it took a very long time to update my number with my clients, colleagues, business partners and family, as MTN simply (for some inexplicable reason) could not give my old number back.
The store in Tygervalley, Cape Town where I took out the contract has been very apologetic, but advised they cannot provide a letter for the cancellation - it should come from their Legal Department, which I simply cannot get through to.
I am now blacklisted and my credit score dropped significantly, as MTN is listed as missed payments, which led to a default. Experian advised I only need a letter from MTN stating I do not owe them anything and that the contract was cancelled. This has been impossible so far. I am not able to get any further credit, for missed payments for something that does not exist. I am appalled by how MTN treats its customers. I cannot belief how they can get away with this.
MTN basically destroyed my life...and I am not even a customer. Since my lawyers even said that I should not even bother to try to get their legal department, I am now seeking the help of the main stream media to possibly assist in addressing MTN's lack of communication and poor customer service.
1 year later...and I simply cannot get this letter from MTN. So so sad
