Cancellation with MTN is going to be a pain in the @$$.

My 12-month contract was scheduled to conclude at the end of January 2026.

In December, I contacted MTN to initiate the cancellation process. I was informed that it was too early to cancel and that I should resubmit my request in January via email. Following this instruction, I sent an email in January 2026, but I did not receive a response.

At the beginning of February, I observed that I was still receiving data services from MTN. Upon contacting customer service to reiterate my cancellation request, I was informed that the router needed to be returned prior to contract termination. This requirement was not communicated to me previously.

Upon attempting to return the router to the Paddocks Milnerton store, I was informed that a payment of R950 was required before the router could be accepted and the contract canceled. This additional charge and procedural requirement were also not disclosed to me at any prior point.

These undisclosed requirements and delays have resulted in an extended cancellation process and unexpected financial implications. The overall experience of attempting to cancel my contract with MTN has been exceptionally challenging, and it appears that the company's focus is primarily on financial gain.
