Cancellation of an MTN Contract
Took an LTE contract out with MTN which took over 15 days to activate after repetitive phone calls. The LTE is unstable so trying to cancel a contract, which can only be done over the phone. Spent over three hours holding on for cancellations which provided a quote for a cancellation and indicated that payment had to be done. This was followed by an additional hour conversation to attempt to get the correct banking details. After numerous calls it was suggested that I do a payment at an MTN store using the cell number which needs to be cancelled as a reference. This is specified at the MTN store and guess what they input another number WHICH DOES NOT NEED TO BE CANCELLED!! After waiting in a queue to be serviced.
HOW IS IT THAT A CONTRACT CAN BE ACTIAVTED ONLINE BUT CANCELLATIONS CAN BE ONLY ACTIONED TELEPHONICALLY AND AFTER HOURS OF WAITING ON A LINE WHERE YOU ARE TOLD THAT RETENTIONS HAS A HIGH LEVEL OF CALLS. DOES MTN KNOW THE DEFINTION OF A GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE??
PS I have 4 lines with MTN (simply because I am too lazy to port a number) and this is the service I get after being a loyal customer for 22 years.
