Canceling an expired contract is impossible with MTN
I took out a data contract with MTN more than 36 months ago. We have no need for it anymore and it technically expired but oh boy, trying to cancel is a PAIN!!!
1. We received NO emails that it expired. Don't believe them when they say you'll get an email. 2. I don't have any MTN sim cards on a phone so if I dial 135 it goes to my Vodacom support, not MTN. 3. Go into their store in Jeffreys Bay Fountains mall. The one assistant hands me a phone where I can request cancellation. Go through the process and the dude says he's transferring me to 'customer retentions' ( at this stage they've already lost any and all chances of me retaining me as a customer) AND THEN it cuts off!!! After 10 minutes on that phone! 4. That assistant is now gone and I ask another assistant to assist me. The two assistants in the front bicker about who needs to do what right there in front of me. At this stage I'm fuming! 5. I left the store without any cancellations or clarity. 6. I email there retentions department email and get a reference number. 7. That was 3 business days ago (not counting the 1st and 2nd of Jan)
I don't know what else to do.
Seems they're happy to take your money but instead of trying to give you value so you stay, they give you **** because you want to leave and make it difficult on purpose. What a wonderful business approach MTN - irritate us to the last second!
