Broken Systems / Broken Promises – MTN Connection (Centurion Mall)

Hello.

On Friday the 23rd of June 2017 I phoned several MTN stores around Centurion to find out if they have stock available of the Samsung S8 (R649 on a MTNChoice+ Talk S x 24 months) and a Samsung Gear 3 smar****ch (plus R130 pm) bundle as per the MTN June 2017 brochure – page 13. Some stores had Samsung S8’s while others only had Samsung Gear 3 smartphones, but only 1 MTN store in Centurion Mall – MTN Connection had both a Samsung S8 and a Samsung Gear 3 available. I asked Thabogo at MTN Connection - Centurion Mall to reserve both devices for me and that I would be at the store the next morning (Saturday the 24th of June) morning first thing to sign a new contract. After I got to the store around 09h15 on Saturday the 24th of June and met with Thabogo and the store manager (was sitting next to him), they showed me they had 1 x Gold Samsung S8 and 1 x Samsung Gear 3 Frontier smar****ch. Perfect – Just what I wanted.

I subsequently completed the contract forms and signed the required contracts. Thabogo informed me I had to wait 2 hours to 24 hours to credit approval. The same day I received 2 SMS's from MTN. The second SMS informed me my MTN application has been conditionally approved and the store would contact me to finalize the contract.

I didn’t hear anything from Thabogo on Sunday, so I phoned Thabogo on Monday morning. Here started the excuses and delays. Thabogo informed me that although they had stock available of the Samsung Gear 3 Frontier smar****ch, it was not loaded onto their system so they could not invoice it. Thabogo said it would take a few hours to rectify. That afternoon I phoned Thabogo again and he informed me they were still waiting for the Purchase Order from MTN so they could load the Samsung Gear 3 Frontier smar****ch onto my invoice. Thabogo told me it would definitally be sorted by Tuesday. Since then I have been phoning Thabogo twice daily for the past 4 days and he still is giving me the same excuse. Thabogo says the problem is with MTN Stores. I phoned MTN Customer Care on Tuesday and again on Wednesday and they say there is no problem with stock and several other stores in and around Pretoria have stock. MTN Customer Care gave me the names and contact numbers of 3 other stores and I phoned them all and they confirmed they don’t have stock of both the Samsung S8 and/or the Samsung Gear 3 Frontier smar****ch.

MTN Customer Care have not phoned me back with a solution. This afternoon (Thursday at 17h00) Thabogo at MTN Connection says I need to please wait another week or two for MTN to sort out there stock issue.

The bottom line is all I want is a Samsung S8 and a Samsung Gear 3 with an MTNChoice+ Talk S 24 month contract.

After been a loyal customer with Vodacom for 20 years my first experience with MTN has been a horrible experience and there is still no light at the end of the tunnel.

Where to from here?

Kind Regards,

Deon
